Experiencing the Good Stuff

One of the best things about farming is the baby calves. I love to watch them play, and I especially love it when I see them experience something for the first time, and it’s something they love. The look that comes across their faces is akin to that surprised wonderment we humans have. Today, Sammy followed her babysitter, Charlie, into the barn. She shyly ducked her head into the trough and licked up a bit of ground corn. Her little eyes went wide, and she licked her lips and immediately ducked her head back down and began eating.
I have to remind myself that it’s the little things that actually bring the most joy. I frequently forget to acknowledge those little things. I need to remember that lots of little things build a solid foundation for overall happiness. I keep thinking how I’m not having a joyful life, but I am, if I take the time to see/hear/experience the small stuff. Does anyone else have this issue? My goal is to try and experience as many of these small joys as possible. To be aware and mindful of what’s happening right now. Not putting off happiness to be a scheduled thing — like a vacation, or a dinner with friends. I’ll let you know how that goes.
